Formed under the charismatic leadership of S/Ldr ‘Dick’ Cresswell in 1942, 77 SQN RAAF was sent into action with P-40 Kittyhawks. By the early 1950s it was the first Australian Squadron to operate jet fighters in combat over the Korean peninsula. During this period it adopted a Korean Temple Lion as their unit motif, affectionately known as the ’Grumpy Monkey’. Click here for full description.
